Multiple mobile encoders captured all the action for Flip Up Collective

Intinor, Sweden’s leading developer of products and solutions for high quality video over the internet, collaborated with Flip Up Collective to deliver live streaming of all the action from the 2024 Swedish Disc Golf Championships. Camera operators with Direkt link backpack units provided seamless coverage of the three kilometre long, heavily wooded White Course at Ale Disc Golf Centre, north of Gothenburg.

Disc Golf is a fast-growing, popular sport that takes the principles of golf but is played with flying discs. For the 2024 Swedish Championship, players tackled one of the world’s most spectacular and challenging courses, with all the action streamed live by Flip Up Collective.

“Of course we had a very limited budget, but we knew we needed nine mobile cameras to provide the coverage we wanted,” said Nils Brytesson, founder of Levande Video and producer for Flip Up Collective. “We already used the Intinor Direkt link solution, including the backpack, so we talked to them about joining the project.”

Emanuel Bergquist, technical account manager at Intinor, continued “I’m a disc golf player, and so are several others here at Intinor. That is why we were keen to get involved, and we provided some additional equipment. I was on site throughout the event to provide support.”

In total, the shoot used three Direkt link mobile backpacks and six Direkt link compact backpacks, the mobile backpacks can accept SDI or HDMI inputs, with onboard software encoders processing live video over multiple bonded cellular connections. The streams are received on Direkt router rack decoders at the on-site control room.

One of the major advantages of the Intinor approach over other mobile camera solutions is that it transmits point-to-point, from mobile source to receiver, unlike other systems which route the stream via the cloud. As well as minimising latency, this gives a big boost to resilience, as was seen on the second day of the Championship. Torrential rains took down connection from the site to the cloud, but the Intinor network carried on working with minimal adjustments from Bergquist.

“We were able to follow all the key action with the mobile backpacks and moved from place to place as the competition progressed,” said Brytesson. “Working with Intinor is such a delight, because you have a real control over what you are doing, and it responds instantly. The quality is excellent, and we are proud we delivered way more than what the fans expected to see.”

Intinor’s Bergquist added “Disc golf is a new and growing sport. Like esports, where we have had great success, we are not bound with the way things have been done for decades. Through creative partnerships like the Flip Up Collective, the industry is defining new ways of providing engaging and entertaining coverage.”

Intinor’s leading solutions for content delivery over fixed or bonded connections are built on years of experience and close collaboration with customers like Nils at Levande Video. The result is a flexible solution for single and multi-camera contribution links over any distance, in high quality and with minimal latency. Find out more at intinor.se.
