VSF Meeting Series Slated for Oct. 23 in New York Will Offer Technical Presentations, Committee Updates, and Discussion Sessions

SEA ISLE CITY, N.J. — Oct. 9, 2023 — Video Services Forum (VSF) will host its next VSF Meeting Series event on Oct. 23 at the AT&T building (33 Thomas St.) in New York, where industry leaders will present on media networking technologies and the transmission of professional media — covering topics including RIST, NMOS, IPMX, and the cloud — and provide updates on the current work of VSF technical committees. For the first time, this semiannual event will also feature a series of open discussion sessions.

“Our VSF Meeting Series events are valuable learning and networking opportunities for anyone interested in interoperability, implementation, and education related to media networking technologies across professional media or pro AV,” said VSF President Richard Friedel. “Conveniently scheduled for the same week as other major industry events taking place in New York, our October VSF Meeting Series serves as the perfect jumping-off point for deeper conversations about critical technical questions and timely standards activity driving our industry forward.”

The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a brief welcome from AT&T’s Scott Beckett and VSF Executive Director Brad Gilmer. During morning sessions, Ciro A. Noronha of Cobalt Digital and Rick Ackermans of CBS, respectively, will present on RIST multicast discovery and the VSF RIST Activity Group. Cristian Recoseanu of Pebble will lead a session on NMOS control and recently published specifications for an open control system for the industry. These sessions will be followed by a group discussion on where the industry is going and what VSF can do for its members.

Following a catered lunch break, Jack Douglass of PacketStorm will present the IPMX Activity Group update. A group discussion led by John Mailhot of Imagine Communications and Andy Rayner will explore cloud deployment: what should be standardized, what’s best left to the industry, and where should those lines be drawn.

After a GCCG Activity Group update by Mailhot, Imagine Communications will lead a third group discussion on control plane solutions. Wes Simpson and Tina Lipscomb of VSF will follow with an update and discussion of VidTrans24, VSF’s annual conference and exposition, which will take place at the Marina del Rey Marriott in Marina del Rey, California, from Feb. 27-29, 2024. The day’s sessions will conclude with a presentation by Rayner on multi-tier remote IP production.

“Twice a year, the VSF Meeting Series gives our members and the broader community an opportunity to hear about the work we’re doing, learn more about the technical deliverables VSF is supplying to support the professional media and pro AV industries, and provide feedback related to their own needs and concerns,” said Gilmer. “With the addition of open discussion sessions this fall, our October VSF Meeting Series promises to be our most dynamic, interactive, and productive event yet.”

Participation in the daylong October VSF Meeting Series is free with registration for VSF members and $150 for non-members. Registration is open at vsf.tv/upcoming_events/2023-10_MtgSeries-NYC/regform.shtml.

About Video Services Forum (VSF)
Video Services Forum Inc. (VSF) was founded on Oct. 7, 1998, to support uniform delivery of video services across the separate RBOCs after the Bellcore-sponsored organization, the Video Services Industry Forum (VSIF), was disbanded. Today, the VSF is an international association comprising service providers, users, and manufacturers dedicated to interoperability, quality metrics, and education for video networking technologies. The organization’s activities include providing forums to identify issues involving the development, engineering, installation, testing, and maintenance of video networking technologies; exchanging non-proprietary information to promote the development of video networking technology and foster resolution of issues common to the video services industry; and promoting interoperability by contributing to and supporting development of standards by national and international standards bodies.
